Creating wonderful places for people to live, work, and play is perhaps the most environmentally-beneficial thing a society can do. With that as our premise, we take great inspiration from the movement called New Urbanism, which strives for “the reconfiguration of sprawling suburbs into communities of real neighborhoods and diverse districts, the conservation of natural environments, and the preservation of our built legacy.”
We’ve been fortunate to work in an area of the Florida panhandle with several prominent examples of development projects built on the ideals of New Urbanism--places like Alys Beach, with its stunning beauty and urban amenities, yet privacy created by elegant courtyards. And we’ve been able to work with some very talented and inspiring people like Andres Duany, who along with his wife-Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, are perhaps the most influential people in the world in terms of building towns rather than sprawl.
The green building movement inspires us to help build and renovate beautiful, healthy, and efficient living environments for people. We spend more time indoors than ever, so it’s vital that our home environment be one that not only doesn’t diminish our health, but can actually be good for us.
